Starting this weekend, I’ll be hosting here at A Ku Indeed what is known in the virtual ether as a BBA Challenge. The name comes from Peter Reinhart’s book The Bread Baker’s Apprentice: Mastering the Art of Extraordinary Bread. It’s a great book, starting with many chapters dedicated to novice topics ranging from understanding ingredients to the different kinds of shaping and then moves on to the main bulk dedicated to 43 different bread recipes, each explained in detail and with excellent accompanying food photography. The BBA “challenge” is to walk through the book from the start and moving foward, baking one recipe a week, until done. Typically a BBA Challenge is anchored at one blog and all participants bake the same recipes at the same time and then compare notes (and thus learn more about baking in the process) by posting photos and comments on the blog thread dedicated to each recipe. At this point, seven people have “signed on” to the challenge this blog will be hosting starting this weekend. If you are interested but can’t do it this weekend, that’s not a problem – participating now and again is perfectly fine. So if you like to bake bread and are up for it, we’d be happy to have you join up. For more information on how it all works, read this post I wrote.
